Rockland has been named as one of “The 100 Best Small Towns in America” by Norman Crampton. Now there are espresso bars, chic clothing stores and funky, fabulous restaurants. The city has become an art mecca. The Farnsworth Museum houses an extensive collection of the works by the famous Wyeth family (N.C., Andrew and Jamie), and the museum draws over 250,000 visitors per year. Rockland is also the home of the largest passenger-carrying windjammer fleet in the United States: Landing port to ferries to and from North Haven and Vinalhaven Islands and surrounded by bays, peninsulas, rivers, lakes, and inlets. Rockport, besides being a popular crossroads, exhibits also tremendous natural beauty. The surrounding area also claims 14 of the state's 68 lighthouses.
