Prescott, town in southeastern Ontario, Canada, located above the former rapids on the St. Lawrence River. The International Bridge connects Prescott with Ogdensburg, New York. Industries include electronics, paper products, clothing, plastics, and sporting goods. Fort Wellington National Historic Park is located here. A stone windmill, scene of the Battle of the Windmill in the early 19th century, is preserved nearby. The community, founded in 1810 by Loyalists to the British Crown, was named after General Robert Prescott, Canadian governor-in-chief from 1796 to 1807. It was incorporated as a town in 1834.
