Port Manatee is ranked among the top 5 of Florida’s 14 deep-water seaports in terms of annual cargo tonnage, occupying over 1,000 acres and featuring 40-foot deep facilities. Its location, on U.S. Highway 41, five minutes north of the junction of U.S. Highway 41 and I-275, provides uncongested highway access. Port Manatee is a thirty-minute drive from downtown Sarasota. Port Manatee is the largest container port on the west coast of Florida. The Port offers door-to-door shipping service to individuals and companies to all of the following countries: Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Belgium, France, Holland, United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany. The Port can accommodate vessels to 850 feet in length, plans call for accommodating 1,000 foot vessels. The port has one mile of continuous deep-water berthing; one Ro/Ro berth; a large berth for shallow vessels; 205,000 square feet of dry transit shed space; 30,000 square feet of freeze space; 135,000 square feet of chill space; 100 reefer plugs for containers; two computerized truck scales; and a 40-acre distribution terminal complex. Tug service, fuel bunkers, potable water, stevedoring and topside ship repair are all available dockside. An ICC shortline railroad that interchanges with CSX allows the port to receive rail freight from anywhere in North America.
