Breves is the capital of Melgaço district in Pará. The first inhabitants of the region had been the indians of the Boca tribe and later, brothers Manuel Fernandes and Brief Ângelo Fernandes, of Portuguese origin founded the city of Breves. Currently, the city of Brief is constituted by the districts of Antonio Lemos, Curumu and São Miguel dos Macacos.
