Saumlaki is the capital of the West Southeast Maluku Regency (MTB) which covers the entire Tanimbar Islands. This regency is newly established, after parting from the Southeast Maluku Regency in 2002. Saumlaki is also a village located in Tanimbar Selatan Sub-District , West Southeast Maluku Regency , Maluku , Indonesia . The location of Saumlaki is precisely on the island of Yamdena which is part of the Tanimbar Islands with the strong influence of Catholic missionaries who have been present since 1629. The town of Saumlaki was built around a single main road flanked by Chinese shops.
