Comprising 12 tiny stunning islands, Brijuni is one of Croatia's national parks located off the south west coast of Istria. The islands remain undeveloped (perhaps not for long: there's rumour of a luxurious 6 star hotel investment) with Roman ruins, two hotels and Marshal Tito's former summer villa, containing a fabulous gallery of black and white photos depicting Tito with famous guests including Sophia Loren, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. It was during Tito's residency, that animals (gifts from fellow heads of state) were first introduced to the island and some have remained. Head to Veli Brijun island for a round of golf on Croatia's eco-friendly 18hole course, mown entirely by animals and free of pesticides. Veli Brijun is accessible by ferry from Fazana, a small village 9km north of Pula.
