Porto Novo is a city in the island of Santo Antao, in Cape Verde. It constitutes the seat of the Porto Novo municipality. Recently the town of Porto Novo became a city.it covers 72% of the island area, and is home to 41% of its population, the municipality is the second largest and the seventh most populated in Cape Verde. Its population at the 2010 census was 17,906, some read as 18,028.
