The fjord Veiðileysufjörður lies between Hesteyrarfjörður and Lónafjörður and no permanent habitation has been in the fjord for more than 100 years. The only remains of human presence are low grass walls after the whaling station in Meleyri…and an outhouse used by campers! The fjord is beautiful with the steep Mt. Lónhorn rising from the head of the fjord. It’s relatively easy to hike up the valleys and get a view over the North side of Hornstrandir and there is a good hiking path to Hornvík Bay over Hafnarskarð Pass.
