Victoria Settlement is located on the Cobourg Peninsula in the Garig Gunak National Park, and although quite hard to believe, despite its isolated location and harsh conditions it was once home to British settlers as a military outpost some 200 years ago.Victoria Settlement was actually Britain’s third attempt to settle in Northern Australia in 1838 after failed attempts in Fort Dundas and Fort Wellington.
