Jaco is a small island in the Lesser Sunda Islands. It lies across from the easternmost point of the island of Timor, Kap Cutcha. Politically, it is part of the subdistrict of Tutuala within Lautém district of East Timor. It is separated from the mainland by a narrow channel that can only be navigated by relatively small vessels. The area of the island is approximately 10 square kilometers and reaches an altitude of about 100 meters. The island is uninhabited and is thought to be holy by the local natives, who are forbidden from entering the island. However, tourists have been taken to the island by fishermen for diving and swimming. It is noted for its sandy beaches. The island has been designated a "Wild Area". Native birds include the Dusky Cuckoo-dove and the Fawn-breasted Whistler. It is also part of the new Nino Konis Santana National Park.
