The Owens Cays, part of what are known as the Sapodillas, were named after the British explorer who charted this area in the 1830s. They're located in the crux of the elbow that forms the southwest corner of the western Caribbean, 22 miles off the Belizean coast, 35 miles from Guatemala and fewer than that from Honduras.
