The Allen’s Cays in the northern Exuma Island chain of the Bahamas is a popular tourist destination because of the conspicuous native iguanas, Cyclura cychlura inornata Barbour and Noble, which inhabit the islands. Iverson (2000) speculated that food provisioning by tourists may be causing a breakdown in the natural social structure of the iguana populations, thus inducing hierarchical behavior instead of strict territorial defense.
