Ueckermünde counts among the few towns in West Pomerania that still have a complete ancient town centre. Numerous old buildings dating back to the late 19th century heyday and even older ones can be seen. Lots of brick houses still testify to the fact that the brick and tile making industries used to be important lines of business for Ueckermünde. Particularly buildings of the 20th century were made from red and yellow bricks. Every Wednesday is market day on the Ueckermünde marketplace with pedlars and tradespeople offering their goods. They present fresh fruits and vegetables, plants, fish and meat products, snacks, underwear and outer clothing, needlework products, flowers, books, bread, cakes and pastries and plenty more. Wednesday's market day has been a tradition for many years and is mainly frequented in the earlier hours of the day. Then the marketplace is crowded with tradespeople and customers haggling over goods and prices.
