Gouyave (Charlotte Town) was named after the British Queen Charlotte, but the named changed to Gouyave by the French after the fruit guava which grew there in abundance. Guava is a sweet fruit used for jam-making and other delicacies. Gouyave is also known as "the fishing town that never sleeps".
