Pointe du Bout is a narrow peninsula across the bay from the busy capital of Fort-de-France. It's the most developed resort area of Martinique, with at least four of the island's largest hotels, an impressive marina, about a dozen tennis courts, pools, facilities for horseback riding, and all kinds of watersports. There's also a handful of independent restaurants, a casino, boutiques, and in nearby Les Trois-Ilets, a Robert Trent Jones, Sr.-designed golf course. Except for the hillside that contains the Sofitel Bakoua Caralia, most of the district is flat and verdant, with gardens and rigidly monitored parking zones. All the hotels listed are near the clean white-sand beaches of Pointe du Bout. Some of the smaller properties are close to the white sandy beaches of Anse Mitan. Nearby is also Les Trois-Ilets, the birthplace of Joséphine, the empress of France and wife of Napoleon Bonaparte.
