Rooted in the country's early history while reaching boldly into the 21st century, Spartanburg County is one of the most culturally-diverse areas in South Carolina. The Zentrum, BMW's unique visitors center and museum, is located here at the automaker's only North American manufacturing plant. Hollywild Animal Park is home to a collection of rare, exotic animals, many of them "movie celebrities." Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, the Carolinas' largest theater, has attracted the world's top performers for nearly 50 years. Spartanburg also features popular museums such as the County Museum of Art, as well as historic sites including Walnut Grove Plantation, The Price House and the Jammie Seay House. Spartanburg Science Center opens new worlds for visitors with programs in all major fields of science. Hatcher Gardens and Woodland Preserve is a haven for birds and wildlife as well 10,000 plants and flowers. The Carolina Panthers roar onto the Wofford College campus each year for summer training camp, with practice sessions open to the public. Spartanburg is also called the "Fresh Peach Capital of the South" because of its many peach orchards.
