The Gulf of Martaban is an expanse of ocean south of Rangoon. It is an arm of the Andaman Sea, indenting S Myanmar and receiving the waters of the Sittang and Salween rivers. The small port of Martaban, located at the mouth of the Salween across the river from Mawlamyine, is famous for its glazed pottery.
