Kambara is a part of The Lau Group, also called the Eastern Group, an island cluster that is part of Fiji in the South Pacific Ocean. It is made up of more than 60 islands and atolls, characterized by their white powdery beaches and gently swaying coconut palms. The chief island is Vanua Balavu, site of Lomaloma, now a copra port. The second most important island is Lakeba, site of the first Wesleyan missionary venture in Fiji (1835). The town of Tubou is on Lakeba. Here people retain strong ties to their ancient heritage. Craftsmen from the Naikeleyaga tribe are known for their carved camakau, or canoes. Over the centuries, the islanders have been widely recognized for their sailing abilities.
