One of the 70 dive sites waiting to be sampled at Turneffe is the "Elbow", located on the extreme southern end of the atoll. With a 3,000 foot wall and some converging currents filled with nutrients this can be one of the most exciting dives anyone can do in the Caribbean. Schools of literally thousands of Cubera snapper, Dog snapper, Black snapper, horse-eye jack, permit, and Bermuda chub are generally found hovering in place or searching for food. As they move about and feed, they are in turn fed upon by a variety of sharks. Besides the occasional school of Great Hammerhead, other sharks that can be seen are Bull, Black tip, Grey reef, and Nurse sharks. With current, this dive is nearly always best done as a drift/live boat dive, and the more current, the more action.
