Django REINHARDT would never have imagined that, on deciding to make Samois, at the beginning of the 1950’s, its last and perhaps single "home port" in its too short life, it was going to make of this small and picturesque village of "ile de France", a "magic" place for the Jazz, the music manouche and all the impromptu musics of the world. 1968, when the first guitar notes burst forth beneath the tall trees on the pastoral gem of the Ile de Berceau, the handle of admirateurs of the brilliant musician, inhabitants of the village, won its bet: to make "revive" its legend and its music!... Initially over a day, soon over the weekend, and dice 1991, during three days, the festival became a demonstration impossible to circumvent of the calendar, accomodating a public increasingly many, coming from several countries of Europe but also of the United States, of Australia... Musicians of the whole world occurred with Samois, Americans, Japanese, English, Germans, Dutchman, Cubans, Brazilians... and French. Great names but also of young talents. Amongst the hundreds of musicians, some great guitarists such as Jim Hall etc etc…. But also the trumpeters Chet Baker etc etc… And…Joe Lovano, Eddie Daniels, James Moody, Phil Woods, Guy Lafitte, Art Blakey, Chucho Valdes, Michel Petrucciani, Didier Lockwood, Lavelle, Betty Carter, Michèle Hendricks, Stéphane Grappelli... and countless others who have enchanted and transported the audience at each year’s performances.
