Oro Verde Wreck, Grand Cayman Description: Wreck dive. 50' depth with 100' visibility in 80 degree water. Pts. of Interest: This wreck is badly beaten up, but plenty fun! There's only a few places to penetrate, as most of the wreck is twisted sheet metal. I was told the old freighter used to carry gold (green ore), but our guide was a master storyteller, adding LOTS of color to each tale. With the wreck upright at only 50', it's a great spot for exploring the entire 150' length. The most interesting sight was a resident moray in one of the toppled stacks. At first sight, I thought it was two eels together, until I realized that his 'scalp' was peeled forward and flapping in the surge, exposing his brain. (No, I was not bent!) Other sights included an old bicycle and several southern stingrays on the sandy bottom. Directions: One mile off Seven Mile beach on Grand Cayman's west side, many of the hotel operations visit this site.
