The Sandouping Town used to be an ordinary mountainous market town at the med-length of the beautiful Xiling Gorge and by the right bank of the Yangtze River. With the completion of the Gezhouba Hydropower Project, the late Sandouping Town had been submerged then. A new Sandouping Town has been built up at the new location downstream of the site with the repayment funds of the Gezhouba Hydropower Project.
