The first settlers arrived in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts around 1815, mainly to fish. This town also became a popular gathering place for pilgrims devoted to St. Anne. In 1915, fire partially destroyed the city leaving very few of the nice old houses east of the church. <br> You will enjoy the scenery presented at various observation points around the city. Note that Sainte-Anne-des-Monts is the most populated city between Matane and Gaspé and that the St. Lawrence estuary ends there. Anglers will love the area for salmon and trout. Take Hwy 299 to get to Parc de la Gaspésie, a provincial park with breathtaking panoramas.
