Hvalsey church ruin is the best-preserved ruin in Greenland from the Norse period. It is a farm, which has been habited since the beginning of landnam – the beginning of the Norse period. A cousin to Eric the Red – Thorkeld Farserk – took land here. Later in the Norse period a church was build and this is the very place where the last written event took place – a wedding in the year of 1408. Next to the church ruin visitors will find a ruin complex which gives them a good idea of how they lived at that time.
