The narrow fjord is one of the better known stops on this mountainous country's "main road" the last four to eight thousand years. These days, the fjord is famous for its steep hillsides that seem to scrape the sides of big boats going in. During summer months, the steamers, that shuttle the Norwegian coast from Kirkenes in the high north to Bergen, always make a tourist drop in. The bottom of the fjord is just big enough for a steamer to make a 180 degrees pivot, using bow thrusters and maybe an anchor.
