Fort Dauphin (also known as Taolagnaro) would have to be one of the most beautiful towns in Madagascar. Situated in the deep south east of the country, it is set amongst crescent shaped beaches under high forest-clad mountains. Founded by the French in the17th century it offers the visitor a variety of pastimes including walking through the botanical gardens, strolling through the markets, lazing on the fine sandy beaches or enjoying the marvelous cuisine including lobster and oyster at incredibly cheap prices.
