Twin Falls is a town of about 34,000 people in South Central Idaho, located midway between Boise and Pocatello, about two hours from each. The city sits at a high-desert elevation of 3,745 feet above sea level, with the Snake River Canyon at our north edge and distant mountains rimming the horizons in most directions. The people of Twin Falls are active in church, school, and numerous organizations. There are nearly 70 local religious congregations representing 34 denominations. And when it comes to clubs, you'll find everything from the major national service organizations to professional societies and youth groups. Twin Falls has long been an agricultural center, and six of our area's 10 largest employers are involved in growing and processing food. But the Magic Valley is now a leader in other fields, too, including education, health care, transportation, and the retail/services sector. Life here is not all work and no play, however. Twin Falls residents enjoy a full calendar of community events and abundant recreational opportunities. It's easy to feel at home in Twin Falls, and it's easy to take advantage of all the good things life has to offer. Float the Snake. Excellent whitewater opportunities can be found on the Milner section of the Snake River east of town, as well as on the Hagerman stretch west of Twin Falls. Scenic boat tours are also available. Take in the races at Magic Valley Speedway, Idaho's only NASCAR track, located a mile west of the Twin Falls Airport. Learn about the stars. The new Herrett Planetarium on the College of Southern Idaho campus is the largest in Idaho and one of the most up-to-date in the nation, with a 50-foot dome, 49 slide projectors, and a 6,000-watt sound system. Take a dip. Twin Falls has a geothermally heated outdoor city swimming pool, a swimming area at Dierkes Lake (by Shoshone Falls), and several private facilities (some fed by hot springs). See geological wonders. The Snake River Canyon is near its deepest at the north edge of Twin Falls. Balanced Rock rises like a giant mushroom southwest of Buhl, and the City of Rocks south of Burley is an international hot spot for climbers. Craters of the Moon National Monument near Arco is an easy and fascinating day trip from either Twin Falls or Ketchum/Sun Valley. Go south of the border. Twin Falls is just 45 minutes from the Nevada line and the resort community of Jackpot. Play golf. The Magic Valley has some of the most scenic courses in southern Idaho (including several set in the Snake River Canyon), with reasonable greens fees and near-year-round golfing weather. Follow the pioneers. The Rock Creek Stage Station southwest of Hansen was a major trading post for Oregon Trail travellers. Ruts worn by the emigrants' wagons can easily be seen near Milner Dam and at Massacre Rocks State Park near American Falls and Three Island Crossing State Park near Glenns Ferry.
