Telluride is located in the southern Rocky Mountains approximately 100 miles from Four Corners, the intersection of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. A remote boomtown established at an elevation of 8745' in the heyday of Colorado's gold and silver mining era, the Town of Telluride was incorporated in 1878. Present-day Telluride, home to the Telluride Ski Resort, is known for its summer and winter outdoor recreational opportunities, the visual and performing arts, internationally acclaimed music and film festivals, and other sport and cultural events. The Town of Telluride is a National Historic Landmark District with a model historic preservation program. A dynamic community of mountain-loving folks in a place of incomparable natural beauty, citizens are committed to preserving Telluride's historically significant architecture, open spaces, and small town mountain lifestyle. Telluride is governed by an elected Mayor and six councilmembers. The Town Manager and staff serve a resident population of approximately 2000 plus several thousand daily visitors.
