San José del Cabo is a highly successful composite of charmingly authentic village, soporific beach and top-end accommodation precinct where hospitality staff consider themselves abject failures if you so much as lift a finger to do something yourself. This is a place that redefines the word 'active' to mean making an effort to do as little as possible. But if you're feeling energetic, you can still drop some fish a line, surf a piece of fibreglass into a foaming sunset, or wander around adobe streets in a happy state of tropical disorientation. The biggest thing in San José del Cabo is the Los Cabos Golf & Tennis Club, which has overgrown a large slice of land just behind the beachfront zona hotelera (hotel zone). The still-charming streets of the town itself are 1.6km (1mi) inland, strung out between the commercially oriented Plaza Mijares and the Mercado Municipal (marketplace), and skirted to the east by the watery trickle of Arroyo San José. 'Downtown' San José del Cabo is linked to the prime hotel, condo and time-share real estate on the edge of the town's bay - Bahía San José del Cabo - by the souvenir-lined Boulevard Mijares. The resort's international airport is 10km (6mi) north of town, while the main bus terminal is on Valerio González Conseco.
