Volendam is a picturesque fishing town with characteristic small houses, canals and lift bridges. Many tourists lose their way in the Labyrinth of the "Doolhof", where a maze of narrow streets and alleys puts the tourist into confusion. Volendam is the ideal place for national costumes, and is not far from Amsterdam, and offer best opportunities. The costumes of this old town are world-renowned. Besides its folk-costume, this old town is primarily known for its incomparable eels, its world-famous performers such as BZN en de Cats and naturally FC Volendam football club. When visiting this beautiful town, you should certainly not omit a visit to the Volendam Museum. Besides old interiors and costumes, the museum also contains a unique cigar-brand house made from more than 7,000,000 cigar brands. Volendam, the old fishing village on the IJsselmeer, also boasts of its, sports, music and, of course fish. The harbour backs onto numerous tiny cottages.
